Finding Peace

Find Peace Amidst Holiday Chaos: Mindful Eating as a Path to Serenity

In the whirlwind of this season I've found sanctuary as I revisit the practice of slowly savouring my food; also known as Mindful Eating.  Taking the bite and the sip one step at a time and reducing the feeling of overwhelm. Mindful eating isn’t just about what’s on your plate. It’s a practice that brings you into the moment, helping you eat with presence and find a sense of calm amid the seasonal bustle. That calm then naturally flows into the rest of your life.

Savour this season, one mindful bite at a time.

If you want some guidance as you step into a new, or renewed, way to eat, do contact me. Through blending my nutrition education and yoga therapy practices I offer a holistic approach to food, nutrition and the many elements that impact the choices we make. I presently have a  client who is loving the journey as she develops new confidence to; broaden her food choices,  cook new recipes, and try new restaurants. She no longer finds food stressful and restricting but one of enjoyment, along with nourishment.

The Gratitude Garden

An Altenative way to look at the year gone.

I am not suggesting you look back on the year and list the things you have done and those still incomplete. Instead my suggestion is that you FEEL into the past 12 months.

Sit yourself down in a quiet place, with no urgency to rush to something else.
Feel into your year - not think or analyze but feel.
This is not dissimilar to a long savasana or a meditation to which you bring an intention. Start with settling into the body, perhaps a body scan. Rest into the space and listen to/feel what unfolds.
.
.
You may find that a personal enquiry is a helpful first step.
Settle, into the body, finding rest and then consider:
What am I grateful for?
What has been good, wonderful or magical about this past year?
What would I like to celebrate?
What do I want to let go of?
.
.
Then continue to rest as you feel and listen for more.
You may then want to consider what will nourish you at this time - perhaps rest, celebration, hibernation, solitude, company, or something completely different. We all need something different to support us at this time. Try out this practice and let me know what happens.

As final note on feeling, using our senses. Science is catching up with old wisdom. Below is a link to a podcast that discusses interception, this sixth sense of the body, the sense the body uses for signalling.
Interoception: the sixth sense we use to read hidden signals from our body

Yoga Retreat

January 27 - 30th, Winnaleah
In mid summer I am offering a Yoga Retreat in tranquil, rural Tassie.

This peaceful environment provides an opportunity to settle into a quiet place, to slow down and practice listening. Listening to life around and within. Listening to what you want; how you want to be in the world.

We will move and rest, eat great food, and perhaps try a floating sauna, have a massage, read a good book, take a beach swim or country walk. It is your time to do just what you want. Only two places remaining.

Yoga Safari, Zambia, May 3-12, 2026

Safari first, Yoga when you feel like it.

The mornings and afternoons are pure safari — game drives, river safaris, guided walks and golden-hour sundowners. Around these, I offer gentle sessions to ease travel-tired hips, backs and shoulders and to find the calm of the bush. Join classes as often or as little as you like. You don’t have to be a “yoga person”; you just have to love Africa or what to explore one of the beautiful corners of the continent with me, a Zambian resident.

Yoga and Yoga Therapy

I am taking a break over the Christmas, New Year period. The final class for 2025 is Thursday 11th and I recommence on Tuesday January 6th. Similarly, I shall return to consult from January 6th. (Go to the website for active links to classes)

THE SENSES

The way into your feelings.

Smell - what I am smelling?

At present I have an abundance of limes (yellow when ripe). I am enjoying their fragrance and taste as I add the juice, rind and zest to much of what I cook.

Taste - what I am eating?

Ricotta Pancakes

We eat differently over the festive season. Here is tasty, vibrant breakfast or dessert.

Sight - what I am seeing

A GLORIOUS short trip up the east coast.

Sound - what I am listening to?

Brene Browne’s 'Dare to Lead' podcast is one I frequently listen to. I recommend the one below which discusses the benefits of reading news as opposed to watching it on TV. the proposal is this will reduce the stress created around the presentation style and imagery.
